Eastern Regional NADMO boss appeals to flood victims; be patient with usback

The Eastern Regional coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Mr. Ransford Owusu has appealed to flood victims in the Eastern Region to bear with the organization as it discharges its duties in giving relief items to those affected by the floods.

Over 9000 people have been displaced after the Birim River in the Eastern Region broke its banks about a week ago.

The floods have claimed five lives with communities, farms and properties all submerged.

Ransford Owusu speaking in an interview with Xfm 95.1 called on the displaced people to exercise patient, saying there are enough provisions to take care of the victims at least for now.

According to him, NADMO is also catering for victims of the crisis in Cote d’ Ivoire who trouped to Ghana, hence the need for his call.

“People should bear with us (NADMO) is taking part of all our brothers and sisters who because of the war came from cote d’voir and are in Ghana. At least we are pleading with the public to bear with us. And they should also come out with the truth. If you are not a victim, you are not a victim you don’t expect us to give items to people anyhow’’.

The Eastern Regional floods, which started Monday 18th of July, have rendered about 9,328 people homeless but the coordinator said NADMO is managing the situation.

The Eastern Regional Coordinator discounted allegations by the public that NADMO was distributing items to people who were not much affected, asking, “are you sure we will just look at people who have been affected and leave them, and then give it to those who are not affected. People are trying to make politics out of this. I can confidently tell you we are disaster managers and we know what victims go through so it will be the last thing my outfit will do’’.
